Zomato got a shock! Government gave notice of Rs 803 crore, know the whole matter

New Delhi: Door-to-door food delivery company Zomato has received an order to pay Rs 803 crore from GST. Out of these, order has been given to deposit Rs 401 crore 70 lakh 14 thousand 706 as GST and the same amount as fine. The company which came under radar for non-payment of GST has given this information to BSE.

Know the whole matter

After the GST notice, ZOMATO has said that its stand is strong. Therefore, soon an appeal will be filed by Zomato against this order before a bigger authority. On Thursday, Zomato had informed the stock market that it has received a demand notice from the Joint Commissioner of Central GST, Thane. In this, the company has been asked to pay the GST dues along with interest and penalty. This demand notice is for the trading period from 29 October 2019 to 31 March 2022. In this, he has been accused of not paying GST on delivery charges during the said period. This order issued on 12th November was received by Zomato management on 12th December. Zomato argues that because the delivery man is paid based on the order, this delivery fee does not remain with the company but is given to the gig worker.

Why is notice sent?

Companies have to pay tax on every service and product, which is called GST. Sometimes some companies do not pay this GST on time. Then the GST authority imposes both penalty and interest on it. For non-payment, penalty is imposed and interest is charged on the amount of GST. Same thing happened with Zomato and a total notice of Rs 803 crore has been sent. Also read…
