Zverev becomes the first semi-finalist of Australian Open 2025 by defeating Tommy Paul in the quarterfinals

Melbourne�मेलबर्न : Top German tennis player Alexander Zverev entered the semi-finals of the ongoing Australian Open 2025 with a 7-6(1), 7-6(0), 2-6, 6-1 win over Tommy Paul on Tuesday. Zverev also became the first semi-finalist in the ongoing tournament. The 27-year-old Zverev will face the winner of the match between Carlos Alcaraz and Novak Djokovic.

Today's match marked Zverev's third appearance at a Grand Slam quarterfinal and second at the Australian Open, with his best performance being a semi-final in Melbourne in 2023. Speaking after the win, Zverev praised his opponent Tommy Paul and said that the American tennis player played better than him. The German player said that he somehow won the first and second sets of the quarterfinal match.

“To be honest, I should have been two sets behind Love. He played better than me. I was not playing well and I thought he was playing well. I somehow won the first set, somehow won the second set and I Suddenly I'm two sets ahead at love and I just need one more set,” Zverev was quoted as saying by ATP.

“The fourth set was definitely my best so far and I'm extremely happy to be back in the semi-finals now,” he said. Tommy gave the German a tough fight in the first two sets of the game, however, the world number two kept his composure and won. Tommy prevailed in the third set and registered a thrilling victory. However, Zverev made a strong comeback in the fourth set and won it 6–1 in complete dominance. Earlier in the fourth round of the tournament, Zverev extended his remarkable winning streak against left-handed opponents to 26 consecutive wins as he defeated Ugo Humbert 6–1, 2–6, 6–3, 6–2 to reach the Australian Open. Confirmed his place in the quarter finals of the Open. The world number two, who is still in search of his first Grand Slam title. (ANI)
