Scholarships worth ₹43 lakh were distributed among 141 needy and meritorious students pursuing higher education, including professional courses, at Guru Nanak Dev University (GNDU) on Saturday.
The scholarship distribution programme was organised at Sri Guru Granth Sahib Bhawan by the Nishkam Sikh Welfare Council, New Delhi, in association with the Sikh Human Development Foundation, USA. The event was presided over by GNDU Vice-Chancellor Prof. Karamjeet Singh.
Of the beneficiaries, 118 students received means-cum-merit scholarships from the Nishkam Sikh Welfare Council, while 23 students were supported by the Sikh Human Development Foundation, USA.
Addressing the students, Prof. Karamjeet Singh encouraged them to imbibe Guru Nanak Dev Ji’s principles of Kirt and Sewa in their lives. He urged the students to set ambitious goals, work diligently towards achieving them and use technology ethically for their own development and the welfare of society.
Nishkam Sikh Welfare Council, New Delhi President Harbhajan Singh briefed the gathering about the organisation’s various welfare initiatives.
Earlier, Prof. Dalbir Singh Sogi, President of the council’s Amritsar unit, welcomed the guests, scholarship recipients and their parents. He highlighted the scale of the scholarship programme and the support being extended to students pursuing higher education.
Mr. Tirath Singh, Director, Centre for IT Solutions, GNDU, conducted the proceedings, while Dr. Harinder Pal Singh proposed the vote of thanks.
The event was attended by Dr. H.S. Saini, Dean Academic Affairs, along with Dr. Amarjit Singh, Dr. Amar Singh, Dr. Mohabbat Singh, Dr. Sumanjit Kaur, Dr. Sukhdeep Kaur, Dr. Amrit Pal Singh, Mr. Surjit Singh and Mr. Tejinder Singh.
