New Delhi. Voting took place today for assembly elections in West Bengal and Tamil Nadu. In Bengal, where in the first phase of elections, voting was held today on 152 assembly seats in 16 districts of the state. On the other hand, voting on all 234 seats in Tamil Nadu has been completed today in a single phase. This time in both the states, voters exercised their franchise enthusiastically and created a new record of voting. In West Bengal, 91.78 percent voting took place, while in Tamil Nadu, the voting percentage was 84.69 percent.

The country’s Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar said that this has been the highest voting percentage recorded in West Bengal and Tamil Nadu since the country’s independence. For the first time in the electoral history of West Bengal and Tamil Nadu, there has been such huge voting. The Chief Election Commissioner praised the voters of both the states for such bumper voting. CEC Gyanesh Kumar has appealed to the voters of West Bengal for similar bumper voting in the second phase of elections.

South Dinajpur in Bengal has the highest percentage of 93.12%, Cooch Behar 92.07%, Birbhum 91.55%, Murshidabad 91.36%, Jalpaiguri 91.20%, West Medinipur 90.70%, Jhargram 90.53%, Bankura 89.91%, North Dinajpur. 89.74% voting took place and 89.56% voting took place in Malda. This is the first election after the Special Intensive Revision of Voter List (SIR) in both the states of West Bengal and Tamil Nadu and tremendous enthusiasm has been seen among the voters. However, in Bengal, violence also took place during voting in Murshidabad, South Dinajpur and Asansol. Now the second phase of elections in Bengal is to be held on 29 April. A total of 1448 candidates are in the fray for 142 seats in the second phase. After the elections, counting of votes in both the states of Bengal and Tamil Nadu will take place on May 4.
