Gauhati High Court Denies Pawan Khera’s Anticipatory Bail Plea: Gauhati High Court rejects the anticipatory bail plea of Congress leader Pawan Khera.
New Delhi. Gauhati High Court has rejected the anticipatory bail plea of Congress leader Pawan Kheda. In the FIR case lodged by the wife of Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma, Pawan Kheda had appealed in the High Court to avoid arrest, but he did not get relief. Justice Parthivjyoti Saikia of Gauhati High Court had earlier reserved the verdict on Pawan Kheda’s petition on April 21. Kheda had alleged that Riniki Bhuyan, wife of Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, had three foreign passports and undeclared assets abroad.

In this case, Assam Police has registered a case of defamation, forgery and criminal conspiracy against Kheda. Assam Police had gone to Pawan Kheda’s Delhi residence on April 7, but he was not present there. Kheda later filed a petition for anticipatory bail in the Telangana High Court, which granted him one week’s anticipatory bail on April 10 so that he could file an anticipatory appeal in the Assam courts. Assam Police challenged the order of Telangana High Court in the Supreme Court where on April 15, Kheda’s anticipatory bail order was stayed.

After this, Khera filed an application in the Supreme Court in which he demanded to consider the earlier order, but on April 17, the Supreme Court refused to remove the stay order on anticipatory bail and also refused to extend the period of transit bail. The Supreme Court bench of Justice JK Maheshwari and Justice Atul S Chandurkar had advised him to approach the Assam court. After this Pawan Khera had approached the Gauhati High Court. Now after the anticipatory bail petition is rejected, Pawan Kheda may be arrested.
