Supreme Court: Rats ate the bribe amount in Bihar! Supreme Court is also surprised to know
New Delhi. The Supreme Court was surprised to hear a case on Friday. During the hearing of the case registered against a woman officer of Bihar for taking bribe, the Supreme Court was told that the bribe amount was eaten by rats! Expressing surprise at this, the Supreme Court suspended the sentence of a woman named Aruna Kumari and granted her bail.

Aruna Kumari was working as CDPO in Child Development Scheme in Bihar. Aruna Kumari was accused of taking a bribe of Rs 10,000. After which a case was registered against Aruna Kumari under the Anti-Corruption Act. The trial court had acquitted Aruna Kumari, but the Patna High Court overturned the decision and convicted Aruna Kumari and sentenced her to four and three years of imprisonment under different sections. The High Court had accepted that the bribe amount recovered from Aruna Kumari was destroyed by rats. Patna High Court had sentenced Aruna Kumari on the basis of the bribe amount being recorded in the Malkhana Register. The High Court said that absence of money does not weaken the case.

Aruna Kumari had approached the Supreme Court in this matter. During the hearing in the Supreme Court, the bench of Justice JB Pardiwala and Justice KV Vishwanathan said that it is very surprising after getting information about rats eating away the money. He sarcastically said that this is a big loss of revenue for the state. He said that serious questions arise when rats eat money. Its thorough investigation is necessary. The court then ordered to release Aruna Kumari on bail. The final hearing in this case will take place later. Earlier too, such cases have come to light in Bihar and the neighboring state of Jharkhand, when it was stated in the courts that rats had eaten the recovered liquor and drugs.
