Supreme Court Jolt To Former Minister Of Kerala: Former Kerala Minister Antony Raju got a shock from the Supreme Court, he was sentenced for tampering with underwear evidence.
New Delhi. Former Kerala minister and head of the ruling Kerala Congress, Antony Raju, has suffered a major setback. The Supreme Court on Monday rejected Antony Raju’s petition in the underwear evidence tampering case. Antony Raju had filed a petition to stay the sentence in the 1990 case. In the Supreme Court, the bench of Justice Dipankar Dutta and Justice Satish Chandra Sharma has upheld the decision of the Kerala High Court and upheld the sentence and conviction of Antony Raju.

Antony Raju’s membership of the Kerala Assembly has already ended after his conviction in the underwear evidence tampering case. In 1990, Australian citizen Andrew Salvatore Cerveli was arrested at Thiruvananthapuram Airport on charges of drug smuggling. He was accused of smuggling drugs by keeping them in underwear. Later the court acquitted Andrew saying that the underwear did not match his body shape. At the same time, after receiving information from foreign investigative agencies, allegations of tampering of evidence were made. As a result, a case was registered on this in 1994.

Charge sheet was filed in the court in the year 2006. After that, Antony Raju was convicted and sentenced by the Kerala High Court in the underwear evidence tampering case. Now the Supreme Court has given a big blow by rejecting the petition of former Kerala Minister. It is alleged that Antony Raju, as a lawyer, changed the underwear of an Australian citizen. In this case, Antony Raju was first convicted by the Nedumangadu Magistrate Court and sentenced to three years imprisonment. Kerala High Court also heard the petition of Antony Raju and said that the evidence of the drug smuggling accused was tampered. Now it is not possible for Antony Raju to get the post of MLA again. It is also certain that he will have to serve jail sentence.
