Re Polling Where Tape Found On EVM: What will happen wherever tape is found on EVM in West Bengal?, Election Commission told.

Kolkata. During the second round of voting for the West Bengal Assembly Elections 2026, on Wednesday, the party had complained to the Election Commission about tapes pasted on BJP buttons on the EVMs of several booths in the Phalta Assembly constituency of Diamond Harbour. According to the latest news, the Election Commission has said that there is a possibility of re-polling in the booths where complaints of tape being pasted on EVMs have been received. TMC has fielded Jahangir Khan as its candidate in Phalta assembly constituency. BJP has fielded Debangshu Panda as its candidate from Phalta.

BJP candidate Debangshu Panda alleged that he saw in many booths that the BJP button on the EVMs had been taped shut. So that people cannot vote for BJP. BJP IT cell chief Amit Malviya released a video of one such EVM on social media. On BJP’s complaint about pasting of tape on EVMs, West Bengal Chief Electoral Officer Manoj Kumar Aggarwal said that wherever this was done, there is a possibility of re-voting. The meaning of this statement is that the Election Commission is seriously considering re-polling in Phalta assembly constituency.

BJP and other anti-TMC parties in West Bengal have been continuously alleging that perfume is applied, tape is pasted and ink is applied on the buttons of their candidates in EVMs. So that TMC goons can stop people from voting and can find out which voter has voted for some other party instead of TMC. The Election Commission had already said that it will take strict action against such EVM tampering and voting will be canceled and re-conducted. Let us tell you that voting has been conducted on 152 seats in the first round of West Bengal Assembly elections and 142 seats in the second round.
