Tirupati Laddu Matter: What kind of ghee was used in making laddus of Tirupati temple?, big revelations in the investigation report.
Amravati. The news of the use of substandard ghee in the laddus of Andhra Pradesh’s famous Tirupati temple had created anger among the devotees. Andhra Pradesh government had taken action in this matter. Now the one-member commission formed by the Andhra Pradesh government has made many revelations in the report. The report states that Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam Board (TTD) had purchased 70 lakh kg of ghee without checking its quality. This ghee was used in making laddus of Tirupati temple. The Commission has held the then TTD Board, Purchase Committee members and officers responsible for purchasing spoiled ghee.

CM N. Chandrababu Naidu had entrusted the responsibility of investigating the case of fake ghee in Tirupati laddu to retired IAS Dinesh Kumar. In the report given by Dinesh Kumar to the government on Saturday, it has been said that adulterated ghee was supplied due to a major failure of TTD. The report said that TTD officials ignored the quality check and also suppressed the lab report which stated that the ghee contained vegetable fat. The report said that TTD first planned to make beta sitosterol test mandatory from FSSAI. This test was to be done from July 1, 2022, but those supplying ghee were exempted from this test.

It has been said in the report that TTD did not properly implement the rules of tender for the purchase of ghee. Low price bids accepted without investigation. The rules for eligibility for the supply of ghee, which were decided in 2019, were also weakened. Due to which such companies also supplied ghee, which did not have good production capacity. When the lab test found adulteration of vegetable oil in ghee, the company was not even blacklisted. TTD purchased ghee on a large scale without lab testing. The report states that TTD’s lab did not have modern testing equipment. In this case, many companies including Bhole Baba Organic Dairy, Premier Agri Foods are accused of supplying substandard ghee.
