New Delhi. The first cabinet expansion of the TVK government led by Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Vijay took place today. 23 MLAs were sworn in as ministers, out of which 21 TVK and 2 Congress MLAs took oath. This has happened after 59 years when Congress has joined the cabinet in Tamil Nadu government. Earlier, along with Vijay, 9 TVK MLAs had taken oath as ministers, thus now the total number of ministers in the TVK government has become 32. The seats of 3 ministers are still vacant and it is believed that allies like IUML and VCK can also be included in the cabinet in future.

It is noteworthy that TVK has formed the government by completing the majority figure with the support of 5 MLAs of Congress, 2 of VCK, 2 of IUML, 2 of CPI and 2 of CPM. This time after the assembly elections, big changes have been seen in the politics of Tamil Nadu. This has happened after decades when any party other than DMK or AIADMK has come to power in the state. At the same time, allies like Congress have been included in the cabinet.
