Abhishek Banerjee Met Lok Sabha Speaker: Abhishek Banerjee met Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla on the issue of 20 rebel TMC MPs.

New Delhi. Led by TMC national general secretary and MP Abhishek Banerjee, other party MPs met Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla today. This meeting took place in connection with the announcement of merger of 20 rebel TMC MPs with ‘Nationalist Citizens Party of India’ (NCPI). After meeting the Speaker, Abhishek Banerjee told journalists that I have come to meet Om Birla on the basis of the provisions in the 10th Schedule of the Constitution. Section 2(a) of the Tenth Schedule clearly states that if a member voluntarily gives up the membership of his party, it becomes a ground for disqualification from the House. Abhishek Banerjee said that I have given separate disqualification petitions against 20 MPs to the Lok Sabha Speaker.

Giving an example, Banerjee said that if you have joined any other party, it means you have left Trinamool. Now, if you have won elections on a symbol and join another party after two years, then your Lok Sabha membership should be canceled on this basis. Secondly, the argument of the rebel TMC MPs is that we have merged against the ‘Nationalist Citizens Party of India’, then it is clearly written in the fourth number of the Tenth Schedule that the merger will be considered only when two-thirds of the entire party agrees to the merger. When two-thirds of all Trinamool officials join another party, it will be called merger.

Abhishek Banerjee said that we have demanded that the Speaker should take a decision in this matter as soon as possible. Those MPs who have problems with Trinamool should resign. If there are elections again, then fight with the party from which he gets the ticket and then come out victorious. Along with Abhishek Banerjee, TMC MPs Saugata Roy, Kalyan Banerjee, Mahua Moitra and Derek O’Brien also came to meet the speaker.
