Passport Application Fees Hike: Getting a passport made will be expensive, the government has increased the fees, now it will cost more to renew it.
New Delhi. If you also have a passport or are thinking of getting one made, then this news is for you. The Central Government has decided to increase the application fee for making a passport by amending the Passport Rules, 1980. Apart from the new passport, now more money will have to be spent on renewing the passport. According to the information given by the government, the fee for 36 page passport for people aged 18 years and above has increased from Rs 1,500 to Rs 2,500, while the fee for Tatkal passport has increased from Rs 3,500 to Rs 5,000.

This means that applicants will now have to spend Rs 1,000 more to get a new passport made. At the same time, those making Tatkal passport will now have to pay Rs 1,500 more than before. Apart from this, the fee for 60 page passport has been increased from Rs 2,000 to Rs 3,500 and the Tatkal fee in this category has increased from Rs 4,000 to Rs 6,000. For those who travel abroad a lot, there is a 60 page passport. The increased fees will be applicable from July 1, 2026. In case of loss or damage of 60 page passport, getting it made again used to cost Rs 2,000, now it will cost Rs 6,000. Whereas earlier it used to cost Rs 4,000 for Tatkal, now it will cost Rs 8,500.

Similarly, passport for people below 18 years of age, which was earlier made for Rs 1,000, will now be made for Rs 1,750. Its immediate fee has become Rs 4,250 which was earlier Rs 3,000. Let us tell you that just a day ago the Union Ministry of External Affairs had clarified that passport is only a travel document and not a proof of citizenship. After this clarification from the government, a controversy has arisen regarding passport and citizenship related papers. Amidst this, passport fees have now been increased.
