Suvendu Adhikari Govt To Pass UCC Bill: Subhendu Adhikari government is going to present UCC Bill in West Bengal Assembly, State BJP President said – the ideal of constitutional equality will be strengthened.
Kolkata. Now Uniform Civil Code i.e. UCC is going to be implemented in West Bengal also. The Subhendu Adhikari government is going to present the UCC bill in the West Bengal Assembly on Monday. During the West Bengal Assembly elections, BJP had promised to implement UCC if the government is formed. West Bengal BJP President Shamik Bhattacharya has said that BJP’s stand on UCC has been clear for a long time. Nothing has been hidden in this.

Shamik Bhattacharya has said on social media that BJP believes that UCC is necessary in West Bengal. Because in the eyes of law, equal rights and duties should be fixed for all citizens. He wrote that instead of separate personal laws based on religion in matters like marriage, divorce, inheritance, adoption, UCC can strengthen the ideals of unity, justice and constitutional equality of the country. The West Bengal BJP President has also written that UCC will not apply to tribals under provision 25 of Article 366 and Article 342 of the Constitution. The recognized customs, traditions and special rights of the tribals will be protected.
BJP’s position on Uniform Civil Code in India is long standing and clear. This is part of the party’s electoral history and political promise – there is no concealment here, no hiding behind a mask.

Let us tell you that UCC bill was passed in BJP ruled Uttarakhand in February 2024. Which has been implemented from 27 January 2025. At the same time, Gujarat Assembly has passed the UCC bill on 24 March 2026 and Assam Assembly on 26 May 2026. It is to be implemented in both the states. After the UCC bill is passed in West Bengal, it will become the fourth BJP ruled state. UCC has been in force in Goa since the time of Portuguese rule. UCC is stated under the Directive Principles in Article 44 of the Constitution. It is written in the article – The State shall endeavor to obtain a uniform civil code for the citizens throughout the territory of India. BJP has been demanding implementation of UCC across the country since its formation. At the same time, opposition parties and especially Muslim leaders and religious leaders are opposing the UCC, calling it an encroachment on their rights under the Constitution.
