Calcutta High Court Grants Conditional Relief To Mamata Banerjee: Mamata Banerjee gets conditional relief from Calcutta High Court, permission to withdraw money from TMC’s frozen bank account

New Delhi. Party President and former West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has got a big relief from the Calcutta High Court today in the case of freezing bank accounts of Trinamool Congress. The court has allowed the party to operate bank accounts for daily expenses. However, the court has also set a condition for this. The court appointed retired High Court judge Subrata Talukdar as special officer and directed TMC to operate its bank account under his supervision. At present, the special officer has been appointed till September 30, 2026. Along with this, the court has also directed TMC to cooperate in the police investigation.

In fact, based on the complaint of the rebel group of TMC, Kolkata Police Cyber Cell had banned transactions in 3 bank accounts of the party. A complaint was lodged by the rebel group at Bidhannagar Cyber Police Station in which they had alleged that the amount deposited in three HDFC bank accounts of the party was earned through cut money and illegal extortion. TMC Treasurer Arup Biswas had written a letter to the Central Plaza branch of HDFC Bank requesting to freeze the account of TMC.

Arup Biswas had expressed apprehension that during the ongoing turmoil in the party, the pre-signed bank checks kept in the party office may be misused, hence all types of transactions from the accounts should be banned. Based on the complaint of the rebel group, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) also started investigation in this matter. Just a day ago on Thursday, the Enforcement Directorate, taking action under PMLA, has frozen the bank accounts of Trinamool Congress containing funds worth about Rs 440 crore.
