IIT Researcher On E20 Petrol: Do vehicles get damaged by E20 petrol containing ethanol? Know what the researcher of IIT Kanpur told about this
Kanpur. Nowadays many people are alleging that ethanol mixed petrol causes problems in engine and parts of vehicles and low mileage. At the same time, the Central Government and Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari have termed these allegations as wrong. Recently, officials of big car manufacturing companies had also said in a press conference that 20 percent ethanol mixed petrol does not cause any harm to the car. Now the same thing has been said by Dhruv Raj Karana, a researcher from IIT Kanpur. He has said that there was no reduction in the mileage of the vehicle due to the use of 20 percent ethanol i.e. E20 petrol. Also, no evidence was found that E20 petrol harms the engines of old vehicles.

Speaking to the media, Dhruv Raj, project scientist, Engine Research Lab, Department of Mechanical Engineering, IIT Kanpur, said that his research shows that E20 petrol reduces fuel usage per kilometer by less than 5 percent. That means the allegations of impact on mileage are not true. He said that this shortage could be due to reasons other than fuel also. If research is done with pure petrol also, similar results are likely to be obtained. Dhruv also said that large-scale research was done and it also shows that E20 petrol does not cause damage, rust or other problems to the vehicle engine. He said that such claims being made on social media are scientifically baseless.

IIT Kanpur researcher Dhruv said that his institute’s Engine Research Lab head Professor Avinash Kumar Aggarwal and his team are doing further research on ethanol petrol. This team has also successfully tested petrol containing E85 i.e. 85 percent ethanol. This fuel will require a special engine and fuel system. Dhruv Raj said that the reason for change in mileage could be the way of driving, road condition and lack of maintenance of the vehicle. In fact, people raising questions on E20 petrol are also demanding that the government should also provide pure petrol from petrol pumps. On this, Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari has said that pure petrol can be bought by paying more money. Actually, Modi government wants to reduce the consumption of petrol and diesel. Because a lot of foreign exchange is spent in importing 85 percent of the crude oil from which they are made.
