New Delhi. Many Indian sailors have lost their lives due to attacks on ships passing through Hormuz by Iran, which is fighting a war with America. Now four Indian sailors have lost their lives in the attack on a ship named ‘MV Golden Leo’ leaving from Odessa port in Ukraine. Expressing grief, India has condemned this incident and demanded to stop attacks on commercial ships.

Foreign Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal has posted that the MV Golden Leo ship was attacked while leaving the Odessa port on the evening of July 19. There were 17 sailors on board the ship. Of these, 5 were Indians. According to the Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson, four Indian sailors died tragically in the attack on the MV Golden Leo ship. A fifth Indian sailor was seriously injured. He has told that the Indian Embassy in Ukraine is trying to provide all possible help to the affected people. Foreign Ministry spokesperson has said that India condemns such attacks.

The Ministry of External Affairs has said that India reiterates that attacks on commercial ships and putting the lives of innocent sailors at risk or hindering the freedom of movement of ships and trade are condemnable. It should not be done like this. This is perhaps the first time in the war between Russia and Ukraine, when Indian sailors have lost their lives in an attack on a ship. Russia and Ukraine have been fighting a war since February 2022. Both have attacked many of each other’s ships. It is not yet clear why Russia attacked the ship in Odessa. It is being told that MV Golden Leo was loaded with grains. PM Narendra Modi has met Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky several times. Modi has repeatedly urged Putin and Zelensky to resolve issues through dialogue instead of war.
