Jaipur. Bhajan Lal Sharma government of Rajasthan has also introduced the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) bill in the state assembly. Rajasthan Government Parliamentary Affairs Minister Jogaram Patel introduced the UCC bill on Friday. Congress walked out when UCC bill was introduced in Rajasthan Assembly. After which the proceedings of Rajasthan Assembly were adjourned indefinitely. After the implementation of UCC in Rajasthan, the number of BJP ruled states implementing it will increase to six.

Rajasthan's UCC bill has 403 sections in 309 pages. Like the UCC of other states, it also has a provision to apply uniform legal rules related to live-in relationships besides the rights of marriage, divorce, property and inheritance for people of all religions. There is a provision to ban many marriages in Rajasthan's UCC bill. Under the UCC Bill of Rajasthan, the minimum age of marriage has been fixed at 21 for men and 18 for women. Registration will have to be done within 60 days after marriage. If marriage is not registered, a fine of Rs 10,000 will be imposed.

Registration of live-in relationships has been made mandatory in Rajasthan's UCC Bill. The UCC Bill states that children born out of a live-in relationship will be the legitimate children of the couple. Let us tell you that UCC has been in force in Goa since the Portuguese rule. At the same time, UCC law was made in Uttarakhand in 2025. The Gujarat Assembly passed the UCC bill in March this year. Whereas, UCC bill was passed in Assam also in May. The UCC bill was passed in the Madhya Pradesh Assembly in July. All these are BJP ruled states. There are preparations to bring UCC bill in West Bengal and Maharashtra also. BJP has always been talking about implementing UCC in its election agenda. Article 44 of the Constitution has a policy directive regarding implementation of Uniform Civil Code.
