New Delhi. The CTET Exam-2026 (Central Teacher Eligibility Test) conducted by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has been postponed for the time being. This examination was to be held on 6th September. Now a new date will be announced for this. Along with this, the board has reopened the online application window for those candidates who due to some reason could not apply earlier for the examination. The application window will be open from 25th August to 1st September 2026 and candidates can apply by visiting the official website ctet.nic.in. A notice in this regard has been issued on the website.
Candidates who have already applied for the examination will not need to apply again. The new date of examination will be announced after the closure of the application portal i.e. after 1st September. CBSE has taken the decision to postpone the CTET exam and give second chance to the missed candidates to apply in view of the order of the Supreme Court. The Supreme Court, in its judgment on a review petition, has emphasized that eligible teachers should be given a fair opportunity to satisfy the statutory requirement of acquiring the prescribed TET qualification. Therefore, keeping in mind the interests of the candidates, CBSE has decided to extend the date of examination.
Let us tell you that the Supreme Court has made TET mandatory for primary teachers across the country. Teachers who are currently teaching without passing TET are required to pass TET by August 2028. TET exam is conducted twice a year by CBSE. Candidates who have passed CTET Paper-1 from class 1 to 5th, while candidates who have passed Paper-2 from class 6th to 8th are considered eligible for teacher recruitment.
