New Delhi. Bengaluru-based National Law School of India University (NLSIU) has canceled its convocation. The program was to be organized on 12th September in which there was a proposal to invite Supreme Court Chief Justice Surya Kant and Bar Council of India Chairman Manan Kumar Mishra as guests. University students had raised objections regarding the names of CJI and BCI Chairman. It is believed that for this reason the institute decided to cancel its 34th annual convocation.
In this regard, in the notice issued by the University, it has been said that despite all the efforts, due to unavoidable circumstances the University is not able to organize the convocation ceremony. Degrees will be awarded without ceremony to all students completing their graduation degrees after receiving formal approval from the governing body. Students will be given the option to get their degrees and certificates through post, courier or come to the campus to receive the degree in person. For this, a form will be issued to the students by the university management. Let us tell you that earlier the students of Hyderabad's NALSAR University of Law had protested against sending invitation to CJI Surya Kant as the chief guest at the convocation ceremony.
After the protest by the students, BCI Chairman Manan Kumar Mishra issued a circular to the Bar Councils of all the states directing them not to enroll the students passing out from NALSAR University as lawyers. However, within a few hours he withdrew his circular. Since then students have been demanding the resignation of Manan Mishra. Whereas in this matter the CJI had also said that this is a matter between the students and me. BCI has nothing to do with it.
