New Delhi. Delhi government has taken a very beneficial decision for electricity consumers. In Delhi, domestic consumers whose monthly electricity consumption is up to 400 units will have a solar power plant of up to three kilowatt capacity installed on their rooftops completely free of cost. It has been decided to provide free solar panels to 2.30 lakh electricity consumers of Delhi by March 2027. Maintenance will also be free for five years. Eligible consumers in the 0-200 unit category will continue to receive the existing 100% electricity subsidy, along with an annual energy-saving incentive of Rs 3 per unit on 50% of the electricity savings.

CM Rekha Gupta said that a 3-kW solar plant can generate about 300 units of electricity. In such a situation, the additional solar power sent to the discom will also be paid to the consumers at the applicable rate. With this, consumers will become electricity producers. That means the customer will no longer be a consumer of electricity but will also become a generator of electricity. CM said that the incentive amount which was given for five years on installation of solar panels will now be given at the time of installation itself. Rekha Gupta said that our aim is not to give subsidy on 200 units to the people but to build houses that generate electricity.
