New Delhi. The joint declaration of the 18th BRICS Summit has condemned the terrorist attack in Pahalgam on April 22, 2025. In the declaration, the BRICS countries reiterated their resolve to jointly deal with the problems of cross-border terrorism, funding for terrorism and providing safe haven to terrorists. Also stressed that terrorism should not be linked to any religion, nationality, civilization or ethnic group. BRICS called for zero tolerance towards terrorism, holding those involved accountable and taking concrete action against all UN-designated terrorists and terrorist organisations. The BRICS group also called for early finalization and adoption of the 'Comprehensive Convention on International Terrorism' under the United Nations framework.
In the BRICS joint declaration, the BRICS countries emphasized on mutual cooperation, respect, solidarity, and decisions taken by consensus. Concern was expressed about the increasing global tension at present. BRICS countries also appeared concerned about the danger of use of nuclear weapons. Opposition to the imposition of unilateral tariffs was expressed and emphasis was laid on stopping trade restrictions. The BRICS countries resolved to further strengthen their strategic partnership for the benefit of their people by promoting multilateral mechanisms, sustainable and inclusive development. India was appreciated for hosting the 'Outreach and BRICS Plus Dialogue' session of the 18th BRICS Summit.
The BRICS Payment Task Force (BPTF) was appreciated for its efforts in finding practical solutions for an effective cross-border payment system. The need for continued reform of global economic governance was emphasized to ensure more effective, fair and representative participation of developing and emerging economies. Also, the important role of G20 for international economic cooperation was underlined. BRICS reiterated support for an open, secure, stable, accessible, peaceful and interoperable ICT environment while respecting the sovereignty and national security of each country.
