New Delhi. On the occasion of Hindi Day, Union Home Minister Amit Shah has issued a message wishing the countrymen. Highlighting the rich heritage of Hindi, Shah said that from the freedom struggle to nation building, Hindi has worked to bind the country together. As an official language, Hindi is playing an important role in public communication, good governance and strengthening national integration. Hindi is not a competitor of any language but is an important link of intimate dialogue and national unity among Indian languages. The most beautiful proof of this truth is our own history. Swami Dayanand Saraswati's mother tongue was Gujarati, yet he wrote Satyarth Prakash in Hindi.
Amit Shah said, my own mother tongue is Gujarati. But, whenever I go to any corner of the country, Hindi is the language that directly connects me with the common people there. After independence, Indian languages became a medium to convey nation-building, administration and development to the common people. Hindi, along with all other Indian languages, worked to advance the ideals of public awareness, national unity and independence. Appealing to the youth, the Home Minister said, learn as many languages of the world as you can, but do not leave your language. I also want to tell all the parents across the country to speak to their children in their mother tongue only. There can be no greater sin than such inferiority complex that makes a person feel inferior by speaking one's own language. Language connects us to our mother, our soil, our history and our culture.
Shah said, our country India is a unique land of linguistic diversity and cultural richness. People say that having different languages is our weakness but I believe that having so many languages is our greatest strength. Every language carries with it a history, folk tradition and a viewpoint, which also carries forward the values of our new generation. This linguistic diversity strengthens the spirit of 'unity in diversity' in India. Language is not just a medium of communication. It is the memory and self-consciousness of any society. Amidst this diversity, Hindi has played an important role in connecting different sections and communities across the country as a language of conversation, communication and coordination.
