India's Minister of State for External Affairs Kirti Vardhan Singh has made the Modi government's stand clear by responding in very clear words to the US bill on tariffs on countries purchasing oil from Russia and its possible impact on India. Singh said, our foreign policy is independent. We do not take any decision at the behest of other countries or under the pressure of any country. We work in the interest of our country and people. We have always said that the tariffs being imposed are unfair.
The Union Minister of State for External Affairs said, India and Indians are the biggest priority for our government. Energy is a core concern for us, we will ensure availability of commercially viable and affordable fuel supply arrangements to meet the energy needs of our people. Modi government will take all such steps which will benefit our country and people. The government will take every concrete step to ensure the strength and stability of the people. We do not join any group at the behest of other countries, but work in the interest of our country.
This statement of India's Minister of State for External Affairs has come at a time when US President Donald Trump has signed the Lindsey O'Graham Sanctioning Russia and Iran Act of 2026 to impose 100 percent tariff on countries purchasing crude oil from Russia. India may also come under the ambit of America's Lindsey Graham law because India buys large quantities of crude oil from Russia. However, America has already imposed tariff on India for this matter. Let us tell you that Lindsey Graham had suggested imposing 500 percent tariff on those buying crude oil from Russia.
