New Delhi. The Union Home Ministry has declared Manipur as a 'disturbed area'. Under the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act, 1958 (AFSPA), the entire state of Manipur, except 13 police station areas of 5 districts, has been kept in the category of 'disturbed area'. At the same time, 9 districts of Nagaland have also been kept in the category of 'disturbed area'. According to the Home Ministry, this order will remain in force for the next six months from October 1, 2026, unless it is withdrawn earlier. The period of AFSPA has been extended in the wake of violence between the Kuki and Meitei communities in Manipur.
The Ministry of Home Affairs has declared the entire state of Manipur, excluding areas under 13 specified police stations, as a “disturbed area” under the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act, 1958.

The 13 police stations of the five districts in Manipur which have not been included in the disturbed area include Imphal, Lamphel, City, Singjamei, Patsoi, Wangor, Porompat, Heingang, Irilbang, Thoubal, Bishnupur, Nambol and Kakching. Except the areas falling under these 13 police station areas, the entire state will come under the ambit of disturbed area. Dimapur, Niuland, Chumaukedima, Mon, Kiphire, Noklak, Phek, Peren and Meluri districts in Nagaland have been included in the disturbed area. Meanwhile, 21 police station areas falling under Kohima, Mokokchung, Longleng, Wokha and Zunheboto districts have also been declared as disturbed areas.

A notification in this regard has also been issued by the Home Ministry. Let us tell you that just a day ago, 4 people of Naga community were murdered in Kamjong district of Manipur. There have been 44 deaths so far this year in the ongoing violence in Manipur. Violence between Kuki and Meitai started in Manipur in May 2023. More than 300 people have been killed so far in this violence.
