This is a big success for Indian agencies. The Union Home Ministry has given this information. VHP leader Vikas Prabhakar was murdered by operatives of terrorist organization Babbar Khalsa International (BKI) on 13 April 2024 in Nangal, Punjab. According to the investigating agencies, Prabhakar was shot at the behest of Wadhwa Singh alias Babbar, the head of BKI organization based in Pakistan. The terrorists wanted to spread communal unrest by killing Prabhakar. Vikas Prabhakar was the president of Nangal unit of VHP.

NIA will now interrogate Sonu Barnala, after which some more facts related to this murder may come to light. Red Corner Notice was issued against Harvinder Kumar alias Sonu Barnala on 17 April 2026. Following a request by Indian agencies on 19 June 2026, UAE authorities handed him over to India. Under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's policy of zero tolerance towards terrorism, the Home Ministry has launched the 'PRAHAAR' initiative. Through this, the process of bringing fugitive and terrorists and gangsters hiding abroad to India has accelerated.

The NIA had filed the charge sheet in the murder case of the VHP leader in February last year. In the charge sheet, two members of Babbar Khalsa International, Dharmendra Kumar alias Kunal and Harvinder Kumar alias Sonu Barnala, were made accused under various sections of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA), Indian Penal Code (IPC) and Arms Act. Sonu Barnala is accused of providing weapons, logistics support and funding to terrorists. Earlier, in August 2026, a person named Manveer Ram was arrested in the same case.
