New Delhi. The Supreme Court, while hearing a case, has commented that if a relationship is established between an adult boyfriend and girlfriend with mutual consent and then for some reason the boyfriend or girlfriend refuses to marry or they break up, then it will not be considered as incitement to suicide. While giving its verdict, the bench of Justice JB Pardiwala and Justice K Vinod Chandran has canceled the criminal case going on in the lower court against 6 people for instigating the woman to commit suicide.

Actually, this case is related to suicide by a woman from Telangana. The woman was living in a live-in relationship with her lover for about three months. Later both of them separated and the woman committed suicide. The sister of the deceased woman held her lover responsible for this. In the complaint given to the police, the sister of the deceased woman alleged that the lover of the deceased had refused to marry her and due to this reason her sister committed suicide. She also alleged that a friend of the lover had spoken ill of the deceased and the lover's family members were also against their marriage. Based on the complaint of the deceased's sister, the police registered an FIR against the lover and 5 other people.

The criminal case against the accused started in the court of Medchal-Malkajgiri district of Telangana. Then a petition was filed in the Supreme Court on behalf of the prosecution. After hearing the arguments of both the parties, the top court found that the relationship between the two was consensual. The court said that if someone commits suicide after a break up, it cannot always be said to be abetment of suicide.
