Let us tell you that earlier there were speculations regarding the Rajya Sabha elections that SP may field a third candidate. However, later the Samajwadi Party made it clear that it will give tickets to only two candidates. If SP had fielded its third candidate, the candidates would not have been elected unopposed. In such a situation, elections would have taken place and considering the numerical strength, there could have been a possibility of cross voting. Earlier on Wednesday, during the scrutiny of nomination papers, the Commission found that two independent candidates Kante Sayanna and Omkar Nath did not have the required 10 MLAs as proposers for nomination. Therefore, the Commission had rejected the nominations of the proposers in the case of submitting their nomination papers without writing their names. Now the number of SP members in Rajya Sabha will increase from 4 to 5.
