New Delhi. Former Aam Aadmi Party councilor Tahir Hussain has been convicted by a local court on charges of instigating the 2020 North-East Delhi riots. While giving the verdict, Additional Sessions Judge Praveen Singh has now fixed November 16 as the date of hearing to decide the punishment in this case. There were a total of 13 accused in this case including Tahir Hussain, out of which 12 others have been acquitted by the court. Earlier, Karkardooma Court had sentenced Tahir Hussain to life imprisonment in the case of murder of Intelligence Bureau officer Ankit Sharma during North-East Delhi riots.

Tahir Hussain has filed a petition in the Delhi High Court against the punishment in the murder case of an IB officer. The names of the accused who have been acquitted by the Delhi court today are Mohammad Shadab, Shah Alam, Riyasat Ali, Gulfam, Rashid, Mohammad Riha, Mohammad Abid, Arshad Qayyum, Irshad Ahmed, Deepak Singh Saini, Navneet and Mehak Singh. In the charge sheet of Delhi Police, all the 13 accused including Tahir Hussain were accused of inciting riots, inciting people, damaging public property, arson and criminal conspiracy. While acquitting the other accused, the court has convicted Tahir Hussain under section 147 for inciting riots and section 109 for inciting people.

According to the news of Bar and Bench, a complaint was filed in this case by a person named Irshad Ali. In which he had alleged that on February 24, 2020, some unruly people looted his shop and set it on fire. Another complainant Mohammad Zahid had said that the rioters were raising slogans in support of Tahir Hussain. Later, during investigation, two constables of Delhi Police identified Tahir Hussain.
