New Delhi. Union Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting and Parliamentary Affairs L. Murugan's resignation has been accepted by President Draupadi Murmu. In fact, Murugan had written a letter to PM Narendra Modi two days ago expressing his desire to resign from the Union Cabinet and leave the Rajya Sabha membership. He had said that he wants to strengthen BJP before the 2029 Lok Sabha elections by reaching the grassroots level in Tamil Nadu. Subsequently, on the advice of Prime Minister Modi, President Murmu has accepted Murugan's resignation from the Union Council of Ministers with immediate effect under clause (2) of Article 75 of the Constitution.

After Murugan's resignation, speculations about reshuffle in Modi cabinet have started gaining momentum. There is also a possibility that some other Union ministers may also resign in the coming days and in their place new faces may get a place in Modi's team. Murugan had written in his letter, serving Mother India and Tamil Nadu under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been the greatest honor of my life. He had told that I do not come from any political family. My life started as the son of a daily wage laborer and from there it is a matter of great pride for me to be a part of the Modi cabinet.

Murugan had requested Prime Minister Modi to relieve him of the responsibility of the Union Cabinet and Rajya Sabha membership so that he could return to the grassroots level and stand with his BJP workers in Tamil Nadu. Murugan had expressed to Prime Minister Modi his desire to fully dedicate himself to strengthening the BJP in Tamil Nadu ahead of the 2029 Lok Sabha elections. Murugan was elected unopposed to the Rajya Sabha from Madhya Pradesh in February 2024.
