New Delhi. Recently, many users on social media had expressed surprise that huge profits are being made on the medicine used in the treatment of dangerous diseases like cancer. A user had told that the cancer medicine which costs Rs 2700 is given in hospitals for Rs 27000. Modi government came into action after receiving information from users about ridiculous prices of medicines. As a result, the National Pharmaceutical Pricing Authority (NPPA), which decides the prices of medicines, has limited the profit on 137 medicines used in the treatment of cancer to 30 percent.
NPPA caps trade margin on 137 non-scheduled anti-cancer drugs at 30% of MRP in public interest to ensure affordability.

NPPA's step will provide great relief to those undergoing treatment for diseases like cancer. Because if till now they were buying any of these medicines for Rs 100, now they will be available for Rs 30 only. NPPA has announced that the new price fixed for all 137 cancer-related medicines will be applicable from November 9, 2026. People will be able to see the exact price of these medicines from NPPA's website and mobile app named 'Pharma Sahi Daam'. According to NPPA, the decision to fix maximum profit on anti-cancer drugs has been taken following the recommendation of the expert committee of the Director General of Health Services (DGHS).

The expert committee of DGHS had asked for rationalization of profits on 137 medicines. According to the latest decision, the companies manufacturing these medicines will have to publish the new price list on their website. Besides, retailers and hospitals will also have to make these 137 cancer-related medicines available to patients at low prices. Let us tell you that in 2019, NPPA had increased the profit of 42 medicines related to cancer treatment to 30 percent under the pilot TMR project. Now, with profit being fixed on more than a hundred medicines, cancer treatment is also expected to become cheaper.
