PM Modi's Appeal For Organ Donation: PM Modi appealed to the people to donate organs, termed the decision of Shivani's family of Madhya Pradesh as inspiring.

New Delhi. Not many people come forward to donate organs in the country. Even the family members of most of the brain dead people do not show willingness to donate their organs. In such a situation, people suffering from serious illness or injured in an accident face difficulty in getting organs. Referring to this in his 'Mann Ki Baat' program on Sunday, PM Narendra Modi appealed to the people to come forward for organ donation.

PM Modi said in Mann Ki Baat that organ donation plays a big role in advanced research. People who donate organs after completing their lives not only save the lives of many people but also make research possible. PM Modi gave the example of Shivani of Narmadapuram, Madhya Pradesh. He said that Shivani ji was the victim of a road accident. Trouble befell the family, but even in difficult times, his family took a decision that was inspiring for everyone. This was the decision of Shivani ji to donate her organs.

PM Modi said that the decision of Shivani ji's family sent a big message to the society and the country. He said that one such step of humanity can bring back happiness to a family. Let us tell you that every year about 5 lakh people in India need organ transplant. Whereas, the availability of organs is very less as per the demand. The rate of organ donation in India is only 0.34 to 0.86 percent per 10 lakh people. This is much less than developed countries. According to statistics, in the year 2025, more than 1200 families had given consent for organ donation of their brain dead people. National Organ and Tissue Transplant Organization (NOTTO) is active in increasing organ donation in India. Due to whose efforts till now more than 5 lakh people have taken the pledge of organ donation after death.
