Three AAP MLAs From Punjab Join BJP: Big blow to 'AAP' in Punjab, three MLAs who left the party join BJP

New Delhi. Before the assembly elections in Punjab to be held in early 2027, the ruling party Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has suffered a major setback. Three AAP MLAs Harmeet Singh Pathanmajra, Chetan Singh Jodamajra and Kunwar Vijay Pratap Singh joined BJP today. Kunwar Vijay Pratap Singh resigned from the membership of Punjab Assembly today itself, while Harmeet Singh Pathan Majra and Chetan Singh Jodamajra had resigned from the primary membership of AAP a day earlier on Sunday. These three leaders took membership of BJP at Delhi BJP headquarters in the presence of Punjab BJP President Kewal Singh Dhillon and former Delhi BJP President Virendra Sachdeva.

Harmeet Singh Pathanmajra is the MLA from Sanour seat in Patiala district while Chetan Singh is the MLA from Jodamajra Samana. Meanwhile, former IPS officer Kunwar Vijay Pratap Singh, MLA from Amritsar North, has resigned from the membership of Punjab Assembly today itself. These three leaders have left AAP and joined BJP at a time when election activity has intensified in the state and Aam Aadmi Party has also released the first list of 40 candidates. In such a situation, the joining of these three sitting MLAs in BJP is being considered a big blow for the Aam Aadmi Party.

Former IPS Kunwar Vijay Pratap Singh had joined the membership of Aam Aadmi Party before the 2022 assembly elections. Kunwar Vijay Pratap Singh had been continuously raising questions on his own government for the last few years regarding many serious issues including increasing drug abuse, extortion, hooliganism and corruption in Punjab. Due to which, in the year 2025, Kunwar Vijay Pratap Singh was expelled by the Aam Aadmi Party for 5 years. At the same time, Harmeet Singh Pathan Majra had also cornered the Bhagwant Mann government on the issue of cleaning rivers and drains.
