CJI said that the interest of every student will be protected. It is important to take care of the future of the youth also. The CJI asked the Central Government why it does not reconsider the UGC rules. On this, Tushar Mehta said that the government has decided to take care of every student. No one should have any apprehension. When he talked about forming a committee to examine the UGC rules, CJI Surya Kant said that we are also talking in the same direction.

Earlier in August, when there was a hearing in the Supreme Court on the new rules of UGC, the Central Government had also said that these were being considered. In January, the Supreme Court had banned the implementation of the new equity regulations of UGC and directed to continue the old rules of 2012. The court had expressed concern over the issues of ambiguity and potential misuse in the new UGC rules. Let us tell you that in the year 2019, the mothers of Payal Tadvi and Rohit Vemula had filed petitions demanding stronger security arrangements to stop caste discrimination on the campus. After the filing of these petitions, the issue of rules to prevent caste discrimination and ensure equality in higher educational institutions arose.
