The Anti Gangster Task Force team of Punjab Police reached Delhi on Sunday morning with Gurvinder Singh alias Afridi. Punjab Police had named the plan to deport Gurvinder from Ethiopia to India as 'Operation Shahid'. The task force team of Punjab Police was engaged under the leadership of SP Bikram Brar to search for Gurvinder. Apart from Africa, this team continuously collected intelligence inputs from many countries of Asia and South America. The team kept a close watch on Gurvinder Afridi and eventually he could be brought to India.

According to Punjab Police, Gurvinder Singh alias Afridi is the leader of the notorious Donnie Bal and Prabh Dasuwal syndicate. He had fled from India and gone abroad. From where he was carrying out extortion, firing and murders in Punjab. Gurvinder alias Afridi is a resident of Tut village in Tarn Taran district of Punjab. Punjab Police had registered more than 35 cases against Gurvinder and included him in the most wanted list. In June 2024, Amritsar Dehat police had arrested Jaswinder Singh alias Munshi. He had told that on the instructions of Gurvinder, he took the security guard hostage in the church built in Thakkarpura village of Tarn Taran, vandalized the statues of Lord Jesus and Mary and set fire to the priest's car. Now by interrogating Gurvinder, Punjab Police will find out in which places other than the state he got criminal incidents done. Punjab Police has so far deported more than a dozen criminals sitting abroad and brought them to India.
