ED raids the residence of Punjab Minister Sanjeev Arora
The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Friday (April 17) raided the house of Punjab Cabinet Minister Sanjeev Arora. The ED team reached his residence in Ludhiana early in the morning, while central security forces were deployed outside. A search operation was conducted simultaneously at the house of Minister Sanjeev Arora as well as at some of his other locations.
According to the information, this action is being taken on the basis of suspicion of old cases related to money laundering and alleged irregularities in some land deals. However, no official detailed information has been shared by ED in this regard till now. Aam Aadmi Party has given a sharp reaction to this. “ED has now raided the house of Punjab minister Sanjeev Arora. This is a clear pattern. This is how BJP starts election preparations in any state,” party’s Delhi state president Saurabh Bhardwaj said in a post on social media platform ‘X’.
The party’s national media in-charge Anurag Dhanda also criticized this action. He wrote on ‘X’, “This is the second action of ED against the Aam Aadmi Party in Punjab in three days. Now the house of Cabinet Minister Sanjeev Arora has also been raided. The central government has crossed all limits of shamelessness. Now democracy is just a sham and the situation is as if direct dictatorship has been imposed. Then whatever happens with ED in West Bengal, it has to be called right.”
Cabinet minister Sanjeev Arora is considered an influential leader in the Bhagwant Mann government. The reason for this is that he is the Industry Minister and he also has the responsibility of Investment and Energy Ministries. His powers were further enhanced in the recent cabinet reshuffle, in which he was also given the local administration department. He is among the senior ministers of Punjab Government. Earlier he was a Rajya Sabha MP and had to resign to join the Punjab government.
Earlier on April 15 also, ED had raided the premises related to Aam Aadmi Party Rajya Sabha MP Ashok Mittal and his family. At that time action was taken simultaneously at many places including Gurugram, Punjab and Jalandhar. The investigation is being conducted based on allegations of alleged fund transactions and financial irregularities involving a university.
