Reservation for women in Lok Sabha Assemblies is government’s priority: Kiren Rijiju

Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju held a press conference on Saturday. During this, he said that the budget session of Parliament officially concluded today. This session, which started from January 28, continued till April 18 and is being counted among the most historic and productive sessions of recent years.

He said that the session started with the President’s address, on which motion of thanks was passed in both the Houses. After this the Central Government presented the Union Budget, which was successfully passed after detailed discussion. Besides, the Finance Bill was also passed by the Parliament.

The Union Minister said that in the second phase of the session, the Prime Minister gave important statements in both the Houses on the ongoing crisis in West Asia. At the same time, the budget session was also extended for three days to complete the work of Parliament.

He said that if we talk about the current situation in the country, the government claims that left wing extremism is almost on the verge of extinction. Even in the North East, peace has been restored in most areas except Manipur, which is considered a major achievement for the country. Overall, this budget session will be remembered for many important decisions and meaningful discussions on national issues.

He said that I want to say one thing on this issue that due to political motivation and mentality of not giving rights to women, Congress and other opposition parties did not allow this constitutional amendment to be passed with two-thirds majority. We are all extremely saddened by this.

The Union Minister said that this sorrow is not just of the government or any party, but the women of the country have suffered a loss. We are all hurt by the fact that an important step to give women full participation in the governance and decision-making process of the country and to give them proper representation in the Lok Sabha and Legislative Assemblies could not be passed.

He said that we do not consider it a failure of the government or our party, but consider it a big blow to the country, which has been caused by the Congress Party and some other parties. In the times to come, he will have to face the anger of women.

The stain of being anti-women on the Congress Party is not going to be erased easily. Celebrating this by not giving rights to women is extremely unfortunate and wrong. Have you seen anywhere in the world that by not giving women their rights, someone claims it as their victory?

He said that giving reservation to women in Lok Sabha and Assemblies is a priority for all of us and it should be implemented. But the mentality of Congress and its allies to drop this bill, and then celebrate it, clearly reflects their thinking. He said that now excuses will not work. The simple and clear thing is that the rights that women should have got were stopped by Congress and its allies.
