Us Intelligence Report Raises Concerns About Trump’s Favorite Field Marshals Links To Iran

In the report of the US Intelligence Department, Pakistani Army Chief General Asim Munir has been described as a red flag for US national security. The report said Asim Munir’s close ties with Iran’s top military leadership could affect US interests.

Let us tell you that the US President Donald Trump administration is largely dependent on Pakistan for back-channel diplomacy in West Asia. Before making this reliance, Trump had been publicly praising General Munir and had even described him as his ‘favourite’ field marshal in his public platform.

According to this report shared by Fox News, General Munir has long-standing relations with senior Iranian military officials. These include names like late Quds Force commander Qasim Sulemani and current IRGC chief Hussein Salami. The report describes these relations as uncomfortably close.

Concerns are being raised about Munir’s role among the American intelligence community and security experts. On the one hand, he is being credited for establishing dialogue between Washington and Tehran and contributing to the April 8 ceasefire, while on the other hand, doubts are also being expressed about his relations with Iran.

Bill Rogio of the Foundation for Defense of Democracies (FDD) said, “Trump should not trust the Pakistanis. Pakistan was a treacherous ‘ally’ in Afghanistan, supporting the Taliban and pretending to be our friend. Munir’s ties to the IRGC should be a big red flag for the Trump Administration.”

Experts believe that Munir can use his relations to strike a balance between America and Iran as well as try to strengthen Pakistan’s role in regional diplomacy.

According to the report, due to Donald Trump, relations between the US administration and Pakistan’s military leadership have strengthened in recent times. Trump had praised Munir’s role during the India-Pakistan tension of May 2025, after which Pakistan also nominated Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize. Munir is said to be in direct contact with Trump and his close associates, such as Jared Kushner, bypassing traditional diplomatic channels.

On Saturday, General Munir completed a three-day visit to Tehran, where he was given military honors and held meetings with Iranian President Massoud Pezeshkian and the IRGC leadership. Although Pakistan’s military presented the visit as an effort for “regional peace”, Munir’s visit so soon after the IRGC tightened control over the Strait of Hormuz is raising questions in the minds of American citizens.
