Extreme heat wreaks havoc, 7 deaths in Maharashtra: Mercury crosses 45°C in many states
The situation has become most worrying due to heat in Vidarbha and North Maharashtra regions of Maharashtra. 7 people have died due to extreme heat, while 31 people are said to be ill. Considering the situation, the administration has implemented the Heat Action Plan.
In the cases reported from various districts of Maharashtra, it is feared that many people will die due to heat wave. In Washim, a 25-year-old youth fell unconscious while working in the fields and was declared dead in the hospital. A 60-year-old farmer died while working in the field in Latur. In Ahilyanagar, a woman farmer died due to heat stroke while cutting fodder, while similar cases have been reported from Akola, Jalgaon and Solapur.
Akola has become one of the hottest cities in the country, where the temperature has crossed 45 degrees. The temperature in Nagpur, Jalgaon and Parbhani also remained between 42 to 44 degrees. At the same time, heat and humidity in Mumbai and Konkan region have increased the problems of the people.
In view of the rising temperatures, school timings have been changed in many districts. In Amravati, from April 21 to 30, schools and Anganwadis will open only from 7 to 10 am, while in Nagpur, schools have been instructed to operate till 10:30 am. Orders have been issued to keep coaching classes and colleges closed after 11 pm in Akola.
The health department has also intensified preparations. A special heatstroke ward has been created in the Akola district hospital, while separate wards have also been prepared in the health centers of Jalgaon and Parbhani. People are being advised not to leave their homes during the afternoon.
The scorching heat across the country has made the situation serious. In many areas from Delhi to Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan and Maharashtra, the temperature has crossed 45 degrees Celsius. Amidst the increasing heat, the effect of heat wave is increasing and normal life is being affected. According to the Meteorological Department, the temperature in Delhi can reach 44 degrees Celsius, due to which a ‘Yellow Alert’ has been issued. In Odisha too, the temperature has been recorded more than 40 degrees at 14 places.
According to the Meteorological Department, heatwave is likely to continue in many states including Haryana, Punjab, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Bihar and West Bengal in the coming days. Experts say that this could be the first major heat wave of this season, due to which it is very important to be cautious.
