Five police officers suspended on charges of bias during West Bengal elections
The first phase of voting for the West Bengal Assembly elections concluded on 23 April. During this time, police officers accused of bias have been suspended. Taking strict action, the Election Commission has ordered the suspension of five officials. These include a total of five officers including an IPS officer, an SDPO and a police station in-charge. Following the Commission’s decision, disciplinary action has also been initiated against him. These officers have been accused of serious misconduct and bias.
In view of allegations of lack of impartiality and inappropriate behavior on the day of voting, the Election Commission had issued directions for suspension and disciplinary action against several officials. The suspended officers include Sandeep Garai (IPS, Additional Superintendent of Police, Diamond Harbour), Sajal Mandal (SDPO, Diamond Harbour), Mausam Chakraborty (Inspector-in-charge, Diamond Harbor Police Station), Ajay Bagh (Inspector-in-charge, Falta Police Station) and Subhechha Bagh (Officer-in-charge, Usti Police Station).

All the suspended officers belong to the Diamond Harbor area. The Election Commission has given instructions to take disciplinary action against him on the basis of available evidence. The first name in the list of suspended officers is that of Additional Superintendent of Police Sandeep Garai, against whom a report along with evidence can be sent to the Home Ministry.
