West Bengal Elections: Record nearly 90 percent voting till 5 pm in the second phase!

There was tremendous enthusiasm among the voters during the second phase of assembly elections in West Bengal. According to the data released by the Election Commission till 5 pm on Wednesday, about 89.99 percent voting was recorded in the state, which is considered a strong sign of democratic participation.

Long queues of voters were seen at the polling stations throughout the day and people enthusiastically exercised their franchise.

If we look at the voting figures, there was an increase in voting in the afternoon compared to the morning. In the first six hours till 1 pm, 61.11 percent voting was recorded, which increased to 78.68 percent by 3 pm. After this, voters remained active even in the last hours, due to which the total voting percentage reached almost 90 percent.

In the district wise figures, many areas showed remarkable performance by registering more than 90 percent voting. The highest turnout was 92.46 percent in Purba Bardhaman. Apart from this, 90.34 percent voting was recorded in Hooghly and 90.28 percent voting was recorded in Nadia. Voter participation was quite impressive in other districts also.

Voting was 89.44 percent in Howrah, 89.74 percent in North 24 Parganas and 89.57 percent in South 24 Parganas. At the same time, satisfactory voting was also recorded in urban areas, where 87.77 percent voting took place in Kolkata North and 86.11 percent voting took place in Kolkata South.

According to the Election Commission of India, voting was conducted peacefully at most places and arrangements at polling stations remained smooth. Although sporadic violence and disturbances were reported from some areas, no major untoward incidents were reported. The situation remained largely under control due to the deployment of central security forces, monitoring by 142 general observers and 95 police observers.

Let us tell you that the first phase of voting was held on 23 April for 152 seats. In the second phase, voting took place on 142 seats on 29 April. Now all eyes are on May 4, when the election results will be declared after the counting of votes.
