The name of Raj Singh, a resident of Ballia, Uttar Pradesh, who was arrested in the Chandranath Rath murder case of senior leader Suvendu Adhikari’s personal assistant in West Bengal, is in discussion. Raj Singh, 25, was arrested by West Bengal CID and Madhyamgram police on May 11. Investigating agencies believe that he was one of the three outside accused involved in the murder. However, the police is still trying to find out the conspiracy and real motive behind this murder.
Raj Singh is a resident of Chilkahar block area of Ballia district of Uttar Pradesh. According to local people, he was active in politics since his college days. He started taking part in student politics while studying at Murali Manohar Town Post Graduate College.
According to the family, after studies, Raj became active in local politics and started preparing to contest elections. His elder brother Yashwant Singh told that Raj initially wanted to contest the municipal corporation elections, but after the seat was reserved for the backward class, he started focusing on the block chief elections.
The family says that Raj was continuously increasing contacts with political leaders and wanted to make his future in politics.
Raj Singh was also very active on social media. He often shared pictures with various leaders. He had also described himself as the state general secretary of All India Kshatriya Mahasabha. Pictures with Uttar Pradesh Transport Minister Daya Shankar Singh also surfaced on her social media account.
After the arrest, Daya Shankar Singh clarified that Raj Singh has no connection with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). BJP Ballia District President Sanjay Mishra also said that merely having photographs with leaders cannot be considered as proof of any political affiliation.
Raj Singh is the youngest among three siblings in his family. Her brother said that their father Keshav Singh, who died in 2018, was a BJP supporter and the family has been associated with the party’s ideology for a long time. The family says that Raj’s photographs with different leaders were part of his public life and being active in local politics.
At present, the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) is investigating the case and trying to find out who planned the murder of Chandranath Rath and what was the real reason behind it.
