Shabana shared a short video of her character played in the film on Instagram. Through the post, he emphasized the importance of the film and said that this film was quite modern and progressive for its time. He also thanked the film’s director Lekh Tandon in the post.

The actress wrote, “Lekh Tandon’s film ‘Doosri Dulhan’ was a film that was way ahead of its time and I loved the character I played in it.” The Hindi drama film ‘Doosri Dulhan’, released in 1983, was directed by Lekh Tandon. The film starred Shabana Azmi, Sharmila Tagore, Victor Banerjee and Randhir Kapoor in lead roles.

Shabana Azmi played the lead role of Chanda, a prostitute. In this film based on the unique theme of surrogacy, a childless couple (Sharmila Tagore and Victor Banerjee) chooses Shabana Azmi as a surrogate mother to have a child, after which the story takes many emotional turns.

In the story of the film, a couple Renu (Sharmila Tagore) and Anil (Victor Banerjee) are unable to have a child after a miscarriage. They convince Chanda (Shabana Azmi) to become the surrogate mother of their child, who comes into the house like a ‘second bride’.

The film was shot primarily in Mussoorie and its music was composed by Bappi Lahiri. The film is one of those films of the 1980s that presented the issue of surrogacy and prostitution from a social perspective.

However, the film was later compared to the 2001 Salman Khan, Rani Mukerji and Preity Zinta starrer ‘Chori Chori Chupke Chupke’ as both had the same basic theme.
