Tamil Nadu’s Vijaya Government Cabinet Expansion Completes With Two Mlas From The Iuml And Vck Becoming Ministers
Chief Minister Joseph Vijay’s government in Tamil Nadu has finalized its cabinet expansion. On Friday (May 22), Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) MLA AM Shahjahan and Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) MLA Vanni Arasu took oath as ministers. With this the state cabinet has now reached its maximum limit of 35 members.
A day earlier, 23 new ministers had taken oath, including two Congress MLAs. Now the Vijay government has tried to strengthen the coalition balance by including leaders of two more allies in the cabinet.
Chief Minister Vijay has retained important departments like Home Department, Police, General Administration, Special Program Implementation, Poverty Alleviation, Rural Credit, Youth Welfare and Urban Water Supply. Law and order and women’s safety were the main issues of victory during the election campaign, hence keeping the Home Department with itself is considered politically important.

The biggest change in the cabinet has been seen in the finance department. Senior leader K. A. Sengottaiyan earlier held the Finance portfolio, but has now been given the Revenue and Disaster Management portfolio. Whereas N. Mary Wilson has been made the new Finance Minister. Among the two MLAs included in the cabinet from Congress, Rajesh Kumar has been given the Ministry of Tourism, while P. Vishwanathan has been given the responsibility of Higher Education Department.
Departments like rural development, irrigation, energy, agriculture, environment, information technology, transport, social welfare, women empowerment and AI have also been divided in the new cabinet. Kumar R has been given the Ministry of Artificial Intelligence, Information Technology and Digital Services, which is being linked to the technological and digital agenda of the state government.
Apart from this, Mohammad Farwas J has got the responsibility of Labor Welfare and Skill Development Department, while Vignesh K has got the responsibility of Prohibition and Excise Department. Thennarasu K has been assigned the Ministry of Overseas Tamil Welfare.
Political analysts believe that the Vijay government has tried to maintain regional and social balance in the cabinet formation. By giving representation to allies IUML and VCK, the government has tried to send a strong message to the alliance.
