Ban on X account of ‘Cockroach Janata Party’ continues!
Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) has suffered a legal setback. The Delhi High Court on Friday (May 29) refused to order the immediate restoration of the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) X account created by Abhijit Deepke. The court declined to grant immediate relief on founder Abhijit Deepke’s plea, terming some of the content posted on the social media account as ‘somewhat objectionable’. The court said that it is necessary to consider the issue comprehensively and any order will be passed only after hearing the side of the government and X Platform.
A division bench headed by Justice Purushindra Kumar Kaurav assured the central government’s lawyers that the government’s side would be heard before passing any order. Advocate Akhil Sibal, appearing on behalf of Abhijeet Deepke, demanded restoration of CJP’s X account. He also said that he has no objection even if some alleged objectionable posts remain blocked. To support his arguments, Sibal cited earlier cases in which the court had granted interim relief. “There appears to be little difference between other cases and this case. In this case it appears that the entire activity is objectionable to some extent,” the bench said in reply, Bar & Bench reports.
Although the court refused to grant immediate relief, Abhijit Deepke has been given an opportunity to present his case before the review committee of the central government that examines orders blocking social media accounts.
What is the matter?
Recently, Cockroach Janata Party, which became popular among the youth and opposition parties, had alleged that their X social media handle has been blocked. Sharing a screenshot of the pop-up that appears when opening an X account, Abhijeet Deepke wrote, “As expected, the account of Cockroach Janata Party has been blocked in India.”
This development came at a time when CJP was becoming increasingly popular on social media and had even left behind national parties like BJP on Instagram.
This organization was started after a controversy arose after Chief Justice of India Surya Kant called some youth of the country ‘Jhurle’ (cockroaches). However, a large number of youth got associated with this organization and the word ‘Jhurle’, which gave a lot of support to CJP. A few days after Ax blocked CJP’s account, Abhijeet Deepke had made similar claims regarding his Instagram account and website.
