9 people associated with ISI arrested for plotting terrorist attacks

Delhi Police Special Cell on Saturday (May 30) busted a major alleged terror module linked to Dawood Ibrahim network and Pakistan’s intelligence agency Inter-Services Intelligence ISI. Police have arrested nine people for conspiring to attack important institutions, security forces personnel and religious places in the capital.

In this action taken on May 30, a large quantity of weapons, hand grenades and explosive materials were also recovered from the possession of the arrested accused. According to the police, this module was prepared and planned over a long period of time with the aim of carrying out terror attacks in the national capital.

Those arrested also allegedly include some persons of Nepali origin, who are said to be part of this network. Preliminary investigation has revealed suspected links of the accused with Pakistan-backed operators and elements associated with Dawood Ibrahim’s underworld network.

According to the investigating agencies, the accused were assigned the task of targeting high-importance institutions, security personnel and major religious places in Delhi. The recovered material included firearms, improvised explosive materials and several hand grenades. Officials say that with this action the immediate threat to the security of the capital has been averted.

The Special Cell has now started a detailed investigation into the financial sources, recruitment process and logistics support system of this network. Besides, the role of operators and local associates involved in the alleged conspiracy is also being investigated.

Meanwhile, about a month ago Indian agencies had a major breakthrough against the D-Company network when Mohammed Salim Dola, a close aide of absconding underworld kingpin Dawood Ibrahim, was brought to India from Turkey.

Dola, who was on the run since 2020, was arrested during a targeted operation in Istanbul’s Beylikduzu area. After this the process of his extradition was started.

On reaching India he was produced in a Delhi court, where the court granted two-day transit remand to the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) to take him to Mumbai. This case is related to the Interpol Red Notice and the NCB Mumbai case of 2023 registered under the NDPS Act.

According to the investigating agencies, some of the accused arrested in Kurla area of Mumbai had claimed during interrogation that they used to get instructions from Dola. More than 126 kg of Mephedrone and Rs 25.22 lakh in cash were recovered in this case.

Officials believe that Dola’s arrest and interrogation may provide important information about D-Company’s international drug network, smuggling through West Asia and Europe, use of hawala channels and sleeper cells and distribution networks operating in Mumbai and neighboring states.
