Pope Leo’s appeal to world leaders, ‘strive for lasting peace’!

In his weekly address from the Vatican’s Apostolic Palace, Pope Leo XIV once again appealed to world leaders for peace. He prayed that God would guide global leaders towards a just and lasting peace.

Along with this, he also urged to promote welfare and compassion towards sick people. The Pope also greeted pilgrims gathered at a famous Marian shrine in Poland.

Pope Leo said in his address that he prayed “that God will enlighten the conscience of those in power and direct their decisions toward a just and lasting peace.” He also said the entire church has prayed for peace over the past month.

He said: “Dear brothers and sisters, during the month of May a prayer for peace has risen with one voice from the entire Church. Through the prayer of the Rosary, continuously and without ceasing, people have entrusted the people of war to the help and prayer of the Virgin Mary.”

Pope Leo also noted that Italy is currently celebrating the 25th “Relief Day,” with this year’s theme being “I Take Care.”

He said, “I am close to those who are sick and also to all those who care for them. I thank and encourage all those who help spread the culture of closeness and care.”

Pope Leo has been raising his voice against the West Asia crisis. This is the reason why his views were openly opposed by US President Donald Trump. This dispute continued for a long time.

Trump had accused the first American-born Pope of helping Iran and making the world more unsafe with his comments. He accused the Pope of advocating for Iran to have nuclear weapons.

However, the Pope never said that Iran should get nuclear weapons. He has only called for peace talks and criticized Trump’s threats of war against Iran and major attacks on civilians. The Pope has also made it clear that he is not speaking as a political opponent, but on the basis of the Bible and the teachings of the Church.

In response to Trump’s criticism, Pope Leo told reporters that the Catholic Church “has spoken out against nuclear weapons of all kinds for years, there is no doubt about that. The mission of the Church is to promote peace. If anyone wants to criticize me for this, let them do so by speaking the truth.”
