A mega campaign will run on the banks of Yamuna on June 14, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta will lead the cleaning.

Delhi government is going to launch a big campaign on June 14 regarding cleaning and public awareness of Yamuna river. Chief Minister Rekha Gupta will lead this special campaign, which is expected to involve thousands of volunteers and hundreds of social organizations from different parts of the capital. According to the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO), the initiative aims to promote public participation for the conservation and revitalization of Yamuna.

According to the information released by the government, this campaign will be organized simultaneously at various ghats of Yamuna. During the program, along with cleaning activities, people will also be made aware of the importance of river conservation. Chief Minister Rekha Gupta herself will participate in the campaign and along with the citizens will give the message of making Yamuna clean and pollution free.

The Chief Minister said that making Yamuna clean, pure and uninterrupted is not possible through government efforts alone. For this, active participation and collective responsibility of common citizens is necessary. Describing Yamuna as an important part of the cultural, religious and environmental heritage of Delhi, he said that it is a joint responsibility of both the government and the public to protect it.

According to government officials, around 500 social, religious, educational and voluntary organizations are likely to participate in this special campaign on June 14. Apart from this, thousands of volunteers from different areas of the capital will also participate in the cleanliness and awareness program.

On this occasion, the Chief Minister also mentioned the “Meri Yamuna, Mera Dutva” campaign launched last year. He said that a large number of people had participated in that campaign also and during the cleaning of Yamuna ghats, more than 12 tonnes of waste was collected and disposed of scientifically. The government believes that such efforts increase people’s awareness about environmental protection and provide collective support to keep the river clean.

Delhi government is coordinating with various departments and agencies to make the campaign a success. Instructions have been given to the local administration, Delhi Police, Municipal Corporation, Health Department and other concerned agencies for necessary preparations.

Special arrangements are being made to ensure security, traffic management, availability of drinking water, sanitation, first aid and emergency services during the event. Officials say that the objective of this campaign is not limited to cleaning only, but also to make Yamuna conservation a mass movement, so that continuous participation of citizens can be ensured to keep the river pollution free in future.
