After the agreement, America and Iran face to face, first talks will be held on June 9!

The United States and Iran plan to meet on Friday in the mountain resort of Burgenstock in Switzerland. The Swiss Foreign Ministry said on Thursday that this meeting will be held as preliminary talks to implement their agreement.

The ministry said that it welcomes the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the US and Iran. This is an important step towards reducing tension in the region.

According to Xinhua news agency, the ministry said in its statement that no additional information about the agenda and other details of the meeting can be given at this time.

US President Donald Trump strongly defended the agreement with Iran on Wednesday. He called it a historic diplomatic achievement that averted a major war in the Middle East, reopened the Strait of Hormuz and permanently prevented Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons.

In a long press conference held after the G-7 summit in France, Trump several times described this agreement as a major success. He said that this was possible through a combination of both military pressure and diplomacy.

Trump said, “On Sunday we made an agreement with Iran that accomplished all of our goals.”

He said that our main objective was to end the current conflict, reopen the Strait of Hormuz and prevent Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons.

Trump said that if military action had continued, instability in the Gulf region would have increased and global energy markets would also have been affected.

He also indicated that the US could accept Iran’s civilian nuclear program with certain conditions. This is considered to be one of the clearest indications yet as to what direction Washington may take in further negotiations with Iran.

When asked whether Iran might be allowed to continue a civilian nuclear program if it abides by the new deal, Trump said it was a complex issue.

He said, “I have always been telling them that you probably have the third largest oil reserves in the world, then why do you need nuclear energy?”

He said that nuclear energy may be required to some extent for power generation.

Trump said he has long questioned Iran’s claims that its nuclear program is only for peaceful and energy production purposes, as the country already has vast reserves of oil and gas.
