Assam moving fast on the path of becoming a fish and dairy hub!

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma met Union Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairy Minister Rajiv Ranjan (Lalan) Singh in New Delhi on Thursday. There were detailed discussions between the two leaders to develop the immense potential of fisheries and dairy sectors in Assam and take these sectors to new heights.

Sharing information about the meeting on social media platform ‘X’, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said that he had a very positive and useful conversation with Union Minister Lalan Singh. He said that many important suggestions were received from the Minister’s experience and deep understanding of the field.

Sarma said that in the meeting, special emphasis was laid on exploiting the immense potential of Assam’s fisheries sector. Under this, discussions were held to increase fish production in the state as well as to promote fish exports by strengthening the value chain, developing processing infrastructure and ensuring better access to the market.

“In the coming days, work will be done to convert these ideas into concrete results, so that Assam can become a major fish production and export center of the country,” he said.

Regarding the dairy sector, the Chief Minister said that in the meeting, strengthening of dairy cooperative societies, expansion of veterinary facilities, setting up of veterinary medicine centres, setting up of tetrapack (UHT) and milk powder plants and improving the quality of livestock through artificial insemination were also discussed in detail.

Meanwhile, Union Minister Rajiv Ranjan (Lalan) Singh also described the meeting on ‘X’ as “cordial and meaningful”. He said that in the meeting, detailed discussions were held on enhancing the capacity of Assam’s fisheries sector, encouraging fish production and exports, strengthening the value chain and expanding processing infrastructure.

He said that issues like empowering cooperative societies in the dairy sector, expanding veterinary services, setting up veterinary medicine centres, setting up tetrapack (UHT) and milk powder plants and improving livestock through artificial insemination were also discussed.

The Union Minister expressed confidence that the coordinated efforts of the Central and State Governments will lead to rapid development of fisheries and dairy sectors of Assam, thereby creating new opportunities for farmers, entrepreneurs and rural livelihoods.

In this meeting held in New Delhi, Additional Chief Secretary to the Chief Minister, Dr. K.K. Dwivedi, Assam Bhawan Resident Commissioner Kavita Padmanabhan and senior officials of concerned ministries were also present.
