Heavy rain in Maharashtra, Palghar submerged, many rivers crossing danger!

The torrential rains in Maharashtra during the last 24 hours have severely affected life. Waterlogging has occurred in many areas, while many rivers are flowing above the danger mark. According to the situation report released by Maharashtra State Disaster Management Authority (MSDMA) on Tuesday morning, two people have died and several have been injured in rain-related incidents.

According to the report, the maximum rainfall of 203.3 mm was recorded in Palghar district in the last 24 hours. Apart from this, 116.4 mm rainfall was recorded in Thane, 108.7 mm in Raigarh, 90.4 mm in Mumbai suburb and 70.9 mm in Pune.

Due to continuous rains, the water level of many rivers of the Konkan region has increased rapidly. Amba, Savitri and Jagbudi rivers are flowing above the danger mark, while Kundalika and Pinjal rivers have crossed the warning level.

In rain-related accidents, one person died due to landslide in Satara district. At the same time, four animals also died due to wall collapse due to heavy rains. One person lost his life due to lightning in Nandurbar. One person each has been injured in separate incidents of tree falling in Thane and Mumbai cities. No human died in Palghar, but 11 animals died after being swept away in flood waters.

The Indian National Center for Ocean Information Services (INCOIS) has issued a red alert for the entire coast of Maharashtra till the night of July 8. According to the warning, waves up to 4.8 to 5 meters high may arise in the sea. The highest waves are expected in Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg, while the sea is also expected to be extremely rough off the coast of Thane, Mumbai, Raigad and Palghar.

The administration has strictly advised small boats and fishing boats not to venture into the sea. Besides, a temporary ban has been imposed on all types of recreational activities in the coastal areas.

At present, 32.62 percent of the total water storage capacity is available in the state’s dams, which is less than 46.57 percent in the same period last year. However, the reservoirs of Konkan region have recorded the highest water storage of 68.52 percent.

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a provisional weather warning for Nashik and Palghar. Orange alert has been issued in Bhandara and Gondia districts for the next 24 hours, while yellow alert is in force in many parts of Vidarbha. Administration and disaster relief agencies in sensitive districts have been put on high alert in view of possible floods and rescue operations.
